Patient Information at Bald Mountain Surgery Center

Patient information: Your surgery

Preparing for surgery

  • Prior to your date of surgery a complete medical history should be submitted to us. This can be done at your convenience by clicking on the “Register Here” button to the right or with a nurse over the phone. We will obtain a list of medications and will advise you on medications to take on your date of surgery. The medications you are advised to take on your date of surgery may be taken with a small sip of water.
  • You will also receive a phone call from registration several days before your date of surgery. Registration staff will verify your demographic and insurance information.
  • Our nurses will call between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. the day before your surgery to finalize your arrival time for the following day. NOTE: This is the time you are expected to arrive at the center, not the time your procedure is scheduled to begin. Monday cases will receive a phone call on the Friday preceding.
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to the surgery center and stay at the facility for the duration of your procedure.
  • Do not eat or drink (unless you have been instructed to take medication) or smoke after midnight before your procedure, unless otherwise directed. This includes water, mints, candy and gum. You may brush your teeth; however, do not swallow any water. If you eat or drink after midnight, your surgery may be cancelled.
  • To cancel, please contact your surgeon’s office at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Follow any other instructions you have been given from your physician or Bald Mountain Surgical Center staff.

Day of surgery

  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes on your day of surgery. If you wear contact lenses, please leave them at home and wear glasses if you have them. Jewelry, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, should also remain at home.
  • Please remember to bring your driver’s license (or other valid picture identification) and your insurance card (if you have more than one insurance company, please bring all cards).
  • Your nurse will check your temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure. In addition, your nurse will verify the health history information that was taken during your telephone call.
  • You will be asked to sign a consent form. You will be asked to change into a gown and pre-operative medications may be given at this time.
  • Your anesthesiologist will review your medical history and your test results (if applicable) while meeting with you.
  • You may choose to have your family/friends join you upon completion of the nursing assessment.
  • When it is time for surgery, you will be taken to the operating suite by a surgical nurse and an anesthesia care provider. The amount of time in surgery depends on your particular procedure.
  • After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room. The nurses will monitor your recovery and care for you until your condition allows for your family/friends to join you.

  • All patients are encouraged to complete and return a survey regarding patient satisfaction with the center. This survey will be provided via e-mail.
  • It is very important to ask your physician to give you information about: diet, activity, medication, dressings, pain, follow-up visits, returning to work and bathing. Feel free to address these issues and any additional questions or concerns.

Respect, dignity, comfort and care

A nurse from Recovery will call you the day following your procedure to check on you and see how you are feeling. You will receive a call on Monday if your procedure was performed on Friday.

Bald Mountain Surgical Center recognizes the need for patients to make decisions regarding the health care they receive. The following health care directives shall be honored: Appointment of a Health Care Representative and Durable Power of Attorney. If you have a Health Care Representative or Durable Power of Attorney, please bring your paperwork with you on the day of surgery.

It is the policy of Bald Mountain Surgical Center that any Advanced Directive(s) and Living Will presented by a patient at the time of treatment will not be honored by the center. Given the parameters that we use and the expected outcome of a successfully completed operation or procedure, all reasonable efforts will be made to resuscitate every patient at Bald Mountain Surgical Center regardless of the statement(s) in his/her Living Will or Adanced Directive.

Information regarding the selection of a patient advocate or Power of Attorney will be available upon request.

It is our goal and objective to strive for your stay to be comfortable. We work hard to respect your privacy.
